Volunteers

You don’t have to be a performer to get involved with Renegade!

Each year, The Renegade Theatre Festival depends on volunteers to cover over 1,000 hours during Festival planning and production. We work on building a broad volunteer base with community members … If you like people, volunteering as a House Manager is the position for you!

Volunteers who House Manage are an important part of the Festival. These folks ‘manage’ at performance sites by; helping the artist / performance group in keeping things moving smoothly, greeting audience members and making them feel welcome, reading scripted remarks/announcements prior to performances, and counting performance attendees while making sure a site is not filled over its capacity… House Managing is easy and it’s fun!

If you’ve ever been a Renegade volunteer, or are interested in becoming one, shoot an email to Katie Doyle, and we’ll get you connected.

Renegade neighborhoods – 2017:

  • Old Town
  • REO Town
  • East Lansing
  • East side
  • Downtown

What to expect as a volunteer:

  • Minimum age for volunteers is 16.
  • A small guide booklet and overview for volunteers, which also contains scripted community/performance acknowledgements and announcements, is always provided to House Managers.
  • At the beginning of their shift, House Managers report to the ‘Team Coordinator’ who will be at the designated RENEGADE table located in each neighborhood. Here you check in at your assigned time, get your name card, and pick up materials for your House Management shift. At the end of your shift you will return these materials and check out at the same location. The ‘Team Coordinator’ will also be available to answer questions you may have when onsite.
  • In many of the performance sites, House Managers “Pass the Hat box” for donations to the Festival. As with other materials, these boxes are picked up and returned to the RENEGADE table.
  • When the evening’s last performance is over in your neighborhood, House Managers make sure the Renegade signs are indoors and any banners, balloons or other material that might denote a venue or performance site are also indoors for the night.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing you at the RENEGADE!
