Renegade Theatre Festival turns 13 this summer and we believe "Lucky 13" is the perfect time to look at what's been accomplished and dream big for the future.
The dream of Renegade - a free summer festival open to all theatre presenters - has been a dream come true: all genres of theatre for all ages presented by many of our area's established companies, educational programs, and independent artists, all held in welcoming spaces free of participation fees or ticket charges, with a growing emphasis on new works.
There's incredible potential for the future. With our thriving theatre community, and the increasing support of and demand for new plays, we believe it's possible for Renegade to become a regional if not national destination festival. A destination festival can bring economic and artistic recognition to our community. It can also expand performance and theatre arts opportunities and creativity in ways we have yet to discover.
To move toward making this dream a reality, we're doing two things in 2018:
One: We hosted an open, facilitated brainstorming session this Spring to gather ideas from all of you as well as from community, business and arts leaders about what's worked, what hasn't, and what's possible. So many wonderful ideas and dreams came from that session, and we're excited to share with you how those will shape the future of Renegade.
Two: We're focusing this year's festival on one weekend for Renegade New Original Works (NOW). This will allow time to both grow NOW, and time to assess input from the brainstorm (above), expand the team, and develop plans and necessary resources for the future Renegade. If you're interested in joining the Renegade Team, contact co-artistic director Chad Swan-Badgero at email@example.com.
We are grateful for the past 12 years that the Renegade Theatre Festival has been part of the greater Lansing theatre scene. It is truly of the community, for the community, and we look forward to dreaming the future of Renegade and bringing it to life together!
